Transport Group

We want everyone to feel that they are safe walking, cycling, e-biking, pushing buggies or negotiating streets with a wheelchair or walking aid. Where there are longer distances, we want people to feel that there is a public transport option so they don't always need a car to get around. Active travel makes us all healthier, reduces pollution, cuts congestion and reduces our dependence on fossil fuels. It's important that children and young people feel safe travelling independently around town.

Our main campaign at present is trying to persuade Cheshire East Council that we aren't the only ones who want safer streets! We want to see 20mph limits wherever vulnerable road users (that's us!) and traffic mix.

We work with the Civic Trust, the Neighbourhood Plan implementation group and Cycle Wilmslow to improve walking and cycling routes and to encourage more of us to ditch the car for short journeys.

Walking

Cheshire has many groups that organise regular walks in the nearby countryside - from the local Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Footpath Preservation Society to the East Cheshire Ramblers and many more!

To explore where your public rights of way are, find more local groups, report problems or just contact the Cheshire Wast Public rights of Way team, check out

The Transition Wilmslow Team have Heritage Walks and you can see more at the Discover Lindow website.

Cycling

Wilmslow is a fantastic place to cycle, from trips to the shops to longer explorations of our fantastic countryside.

Cycle Wilmslow runs family cycle rides, campaigns for safer routes, and produces a fantastic local map covering good cycling routes and quiet roads.

The local Wilmslow U3A group runs a range of rides for those of us who have escaped full time work - frequently stopping for coffee and cake!

With 70% of journeys in England being five miles or less, and the furthest borders of Alderly Edge and Handforth being within a three mile cycle, we encourage you to join us in cycling and walking into town! We've worked to put the local cycle parking on OpenStreetMap, and we have a range of local bike shops to support you.
